about

This Atmosphere is a new project to explore my version of free jazz or something akin to "cosmic jazz".

Zenith Life was recorded some time ago & started with me creating a collage of drum patterns from a number of isolated drum parts on quadraphonic LP's from the 60's & 70's. Drums were looped over one another to create new rhythm patterns & combined to create an original drum part, like sampling but much more analog-y/labor intensive. I pulled the trumpet out of the garage and played a little trumpet with wah-wah, ring modulation & other effects.

Pan-Lunarism was recorded yesterday, though the drums were partially filched from Isolation 44, which was just me playing a 5 minute drum solo. All I own is a snare drum, so this is all on that snare in hand, snaring on and off manually. Pan-Lunarism includes one drum, 2 pianos, 2 basses & one guitar.

My editor, Shannon, has been too busy to listen to this one & she hears the frequency I've lost to tinnitus. If you hear hiss, let me know!

about

Clarinette Edinburgh, UK

Clarinette began making tapes for broadcast on KPFA's "Assassinatin' Rhythm" in the mid-80's, in time the project went dormant until some tapes were found in 1999. One of those tapes made it to Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore who asked to release an LP. Tapes from those early years along with newly recorded material were released in 2002 as Haze. Clarinette has been an active recording project since. ... more
